Hi Reader, The Lunar New Year began on February 17th — and this year is the Year of the Fire Horse. Now if you know our family, you know this feels extra meaningful over here. My 13-year-old has been riding English for five years and is completely in love with everything horses — the muddy boots, the grooming, the braids, the jumps. 🐎 And I know what you’re thinking… “Dang. That’s expensive.” You’re not wrong. Riding can absolutely be an investment. Between lessons, shows, boots, helmets, breeches, show shirts — it adds up quickly. But here’s something that has made a huge difference for our family: The Tried EquestrianWe discovered The Tried Equestrian, an online consignment shop for horse tack and riding apparel, and it has been a game-changer: We’ve purchased gently used:
And everything has arrived in fabulous condition. What I love most is their mission: The Tried Equestrian was founded to make quality equestrian gear more accessible and affordable while promoting sustainability within the riding community. They give pre-loved tack and apparel a second life — helping riders buy and sell responsibly instead of constantly purchasing new. It’s sustainability in action: ✔️ Extending the life of high-quality gear ✔️ Reducing waste ✔️ Making riding more accessible for families And during the Year of the Horse? It feels especially fitting. I wrote a full blog post sharing how we use Tried Equestrian to buy and sell gear (and what I look for when shopping consignment).
And if you celebrate Lunar New Year, I’d love to know how you’re marking the occasion this week. Here’s to strong, fiery horses — and raising kids who pursue what they love.
